About

James Cramer

Great Swamp Pottery is the work of James, a potter working out of northern New Jersey — just up the road from the marshes and woodlands that give the shop its name.

Every piece is made by hand, one at a time, thrown then glazed and fired in small batches. No two come out exactly alike, and that's the point — a mug should feel like something a person made, not something a machine stamped out by the thousand.

James came to clay after a lifetime of working with his hands and years spent perfecting his style and technique, and that same patience shows up in the work: pieces meant to be used every day, to feel better the more you handle them, and to last.

Everything here is one-of-a-kind. When a piece is gone, it's gone — so if you'd like a heads-up when new work comes out of the kiln, sign up below.
